Drennan X-Tough is a premium monofilament engineered specifically for the demands of modern match and specimen fishing. As the name suggests, this line is built to endure, offering a unique combination of extreme suppleness and rugged durability. It is the go-to choice for anglers who need a line that can handle the rough and tumble of active fishingfrom the friction of sliding shot to the abrasive combat of playing big fish near snags.

Pro Tip from Gerrys Fishing

Pro Tip: X-Tough is arguably the best line on the market for bulk shotting or dropper patterns. Because the line is so resistant to shot damage, you can slide your lead shot up and down the rig multiple times to adjust to changing depths without worrying about nicks or curls forming in the mono. This ensures your rig remains at 100% breaking strain throughout the entire session.

Examples of Where to Use

• Commercial Pole Rigs: Use it as a main rig line when targeting carp and F1s. Its abrasion resistance protects against wear and tear as the line rubs against the pole tip or during heavy shipping.

• River Feeder Fishing: The perfect hooklength material for chub and barbel. The extra suppleness allows the hookbait to flutter naturally in the current, while the toughness handles the rub of gravel and stones.

• Waggler Hooklengths: Ideal for fishing on the drop for roach and rudd. The clear, supple nature of the line ensures it doesnt spook wary fish in clear water.

• Heavy-Duty Margin Rigs: Its durability makes it the top choice for short-range pole fishing where you are likely to be pulling fish out of reeds or lilies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this line better for rigs or hooklengths?

X-Tough is a true dual-purpose line. Its suppleness makes it a fantastic hooklength, but its resistance to shot damage and general wear makes it one of the most reliable main lines for pole rigs ever produced.

Does it have much stretch?

X-Tough has a controlled amount of mechanical stretch. This provides a vital safety buffer when a fish lunges at the net, yet it remains responsive enough to ensure instant hook penetration when you strike.

Will it weaken if I move my shot frequently?

All lines suffer some wear when shot are moved, but X-Tough is specifically formulated to resist the crushing effect of lead shot better than standard monofilaments. It maintains its structural integrity and breaking strain far longer than thinner, competition-grade lines.
