Sakura Kaiyo Pop 100F 120mm 36.5g

The Mid-Size Surface Powerhouse Strength Meets Versatility

The Sakura Kaiyo Pop 100F in the 120mm, 36.5g version is the highly versatile all-rounder of the Kaiyo range. While its 150mm big brother is built for tropical giants, this 120mm model is the perfect size for heavy-duty coastal fishing. It is designed to target large Sea Bass, Bluefish, Leerfish, and Atlantic Bonito, as well as medium-sized tropical species.

Despite its smaller footprint, it retains the overbuilt engineering of the Kaiyo series. With Full Wire construction and a ball-bearing swivel ventral hook, this popper is designed to handle predators that hit hard and fight dirty. It offers the perfect balance between a lure that can be cast on standard heavy spinning gear and one that possesses Big Game durability.

Technical Highlights

  • Integral Wire-Through Frame: The tow point and both hook hangers are connected by a single, continuous stainless steel wire. This ensures that even if the reinforced ABS body were to crack under the pressure of a massive jaw, the fish remains tethered to your line.

  • 360 Swivel System: To prevent fish from using the lure as a lever to spit the hook, the belly treble is mounted on a high-performance ball-bearing swivel. This allows the hook to rotate freely during the fight, significantly reducing the risk of opened hooks or snapped split rings.

  • Versatile Pop Signature: The cup-face design is optimized to push a significant volume of water for its size. It can produce a sharp slap splash or a deep bloop depending on the angle and force of your rod tip.

  • Precision Ballasting: The internal stainless steel balls not only provide a loud acoustic signal that triggers predatory aggression but also shift to the rear during the cast to ensure the lure flies straight and true, even in coastal winds.

Where & How to Use It

  • Coastal Predator Hunting: This is the ultimate tool for Bluefish and Leerfish. Its 36.5g weight allows it to be launched great distances from the shore using a 10-40g or 20-60g rated rod.

  • Offshore Boil Casting: Perfect for when Tuna or Bonito are feeding on smaller baitfish like anchovies. The 120mm profile matches the hatch better than larger tropical poppers in these scenarios.

  • Retrieve Techniques:

    • The Walking Pop: Use short, sharp twitches to make the lure zig-zag and splashdeadly for Sea Bass.

    • The Stop-and-Pop: One loud pop followed by a 3-second pause. This imitates a wounded fish struggling on the surface and is often when the most violent strikes occur.

  • Eco-Friendly Construction: Like all new Sakura hard baits, this model is 100% lead-free.

Gerrys Pro Tip:

The 120mm Kaiyo Pop is my favorite for Mediterranean Bluefish. Its heavy enough to cast a mile but small enough not to scare off the fish on calmer days. That ball-bearing swivel is a game-changer for Bluefish, as they love to roll and spin once hooked. I recommend using this on a Sakura Ryokan 8 or 9 Heavy (H) rod with a 4000 or 5000 size reel. If youre targeting Sea Bass in rough water, try a slower blooping retrieve to let the rattle help the fish find the lure through the wave noise
