Abu Garcia Max PRO Casting Combo 702H 7 15-60g/Max5ProLP-L

The Abu Garcia Max Pro Casting Combo 702H 7 15-60g is a high-performance setup designed for serious predator anglers who need a powerful combo for targeting large fish with heavy lures. As part of the 4th generation of the popular Max series, the PRO designation indicates that this combo features enhanced components and a more refined design compared to the lower-tier Max X and SX models.

Here is a detailed breakdown of the components and features of this specific combo.

In-Depth Description and Specifications

Rod Specifications and Features (702H 7 15-60g)

• Rod Length: 7 feet (2.13 meters). This length is a great all-around choice for a heavy-duty casting rod, providing a balance between casting distance and accuracy. Its manageable from a boat but long enough to get good distance from the bank.
• Rod Power: Heavy (H). This power rating indicates a rod with a strong backbone, designed to handle heavy lures and put the brakes on powerful fish.
• Lure Rating: 15-60g. This is a wide range of lure weights, making the combo perfect for a variety of heavy-duty applications. It can handle large swimbaits, big jerkbaits, heavy jigs, and other large predator lures.
• Action: Fast Action. This action means the rod bends primarily in the upper third of the blank. This provides a sensitive tip for detecting bites and a strong, quick-recovering backbone for powerful hooksets and fighting big fish.
• Pieces: 2-piece design. This is a convenient configuration for transport and storage without sacrificing the rods performance.
• Blank Material: Strong and responsive 24T Carbon. This is a high-quality carbon that provides a good balance of sensitivity for feeling bites and lure action, and the powerful backbone needed for fighting larger, more aggressive species.
• Guides: Lightweight LTS guides. These are designed to reduce friction for long casts and are suitable for use with both monofilament and braided lines.
• Handle: The rod features a classic and comfortable cork handle grip. The cork provides an excellent feel and grip, even when wet, and is a popular choice for its lightweight and aesthetic properties. The split-grip design also helps to reduce the overall weight of the rod.
• Reel Seat: It is equipped with a custom-designed reel seat with an integrated polymer comfort grip. This provides a solid connection between the rod and reel and enhances the anglers ability to feel subtle vibrations from the line and lure.

Reel Specifications and Features (Max Pro LP)

The reel in this combo is the Max Pro low-profile baitcasting reel. The LP stands for Low Profile and the -L in the model number denotes a left-hand retrieve. This means the reel handle is on the left side, which is preferred by many right-handed anglers who want to cast with their dominant hand and reel with their non-dominant hand.

• Bearings: 7+1 Bearings. This includes 7 stainless steel ball bearings for smooth operation and 1 roller bearing for instant anti-reverse, which provides solid hooksets without any handle backplay. This higher bearing count provides a noticeably smoother retrieve compared to lower-tier models.
• Frame & Sideplates: Constructed from lightweight graphite. This material is durable and corrosion-resistant, making the reel a reliable choice for freshwater and light saltwater use. The reels design is compact and ergonomic, fitting comfortably in the palm of your hand.
• Gear System: Features a Duragear Brass Gear. Brass is a strong, durable metal that ensures a long gear life and a powerful retrieve, which is essential when reeling in heavy lures or fighting a large fish.
• Drag System: The reel is equipped with a Power Disk drag system. This system uses multiple washers to provide a smooth and consistent drag, allowing the angler to fight a fish confidently without fear of sudden jerks or line breaks.
• Braking System: The reel uses a MagTrax magnetic brake system. This system provides consistent and reliable cast control, which is essential for preventing backlashes. An external dial allows for easy adjustment of the braking force to match different lure weights and wind conditions.
• Handle: The reel has a compact bent handle with soft-touch PVC knobs, providing a comfortable and secure grip.
