Axia Sliding Reel Seat The Ultimate DPS-Style Adjustable Mount

Finding the perfect reel position is critical for casting comfort and power, especially on rods that dont come with a fixed seat. The Axia Sliding Reel Seat, available here at Gerrys Fishing, is the professionals alternative to traditional metal coasters.

Designed around the time-tested DPS shape, this seat offers a far more ergonomic and secure grip than clip-on alternatives. The standout feature is the integrated central tongueas you tighten the hoods, this internal plate clamps directly and firmly onto the rod blank. This lock-down design eliminates the annoying twist or roll that can occur during a heavy cast or when taming a powerful fish.

Where to Use the Axia Sliding Reel Seat

  • Custom Beachcasters: Perfect for blank-only rods or older glass/carbon rods where the original coasters have scratched the finish.

  • Tuning Your Cast: Use it to find your sweet spot. Slide the seat up for more leverage during a pendulum cast, or lower it for comfort when fishing down the butt.

  • Multiplier-to-Fixed Spool Conversions: If youre switching reel types on a versatile blank, this seat accommodates both foot types perfectly.

  • Rough Ground Fishing: When you need a reel seat that wont budge while winching a heavy lead and a cod through the kelp, the anti-twist tongue is a lifesaver.

Gerrys Pro Tip

To get the best performance from a sliding seat, we always recommend fitting a length of Japanese Heat Shrink Tube to your rod butt first. Not only does this protect the blank from scratches, but it provides a slightly tacky surface for the internal tongue to bite into. Once youve found your perfect casting position, a few wraps of electrical tape at the top and bottom of the seat will ensure it stays exactly where you want it for the whole session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this fit any rod diameter?

These seats are designed for standard beachcaster butt diameters (usually around 22mm-26mm). Ensure you check your rods diameter before ordering to ensure a snug fit.

Can I use this with a large 14000-size fixed spool?

Yes. The DPS-style hoods are deep enough to accommodate the large feet of big-pit fixed spool reels as well as the standard feet of shore multipliers like the Penn Mag or Akios models.

Is it better than metal coasters?

Coasters can be cold, uncomfortable, and prone to slipping or scratching the blank. The Axia Sliding Seat provides a much more factory-finished feel, better hand comfort, and superior grip thanks to the internal clamping tongue.

How do I install it?

Unless your rod has a removable butt cap, you typically slide this on from the bottom of the blank. It is best installed during a rebuild or when first setting up a new rod blank
