Okuma Carbonite B-Feeder CBBF-5000

Okuma Carbonite B-Feeder CBBF-5000: The Robust Entry-Level Specialist

At Gerrys Fishing, we find the Okuma Carbonite B-Feeder CBBF-5000 to be one of the most cost-effective ways to get into specimen angling without compromising on essential features. The B-Feeder is a dedicated freespool reel, utilizing Okumas Auto-switch system. This allows a fish to take your bait and run with minimal resistance, only engaging the main drag once you turn the handlea vital feature for preventing rod-in-the-water moments when targeting aggressive-hitting species.

The 5000 size is the heavy-hitter of the series, boasting a massive 12kg Max Drag and a high-torque 4.5:1 gear ratio. This makes it a formidable tool for those who need a bit more grunt when fishing larger venues or tackling powerful river fish. Built around a corrosion-resistant graphite body, it is designed to be a durable workhorse that can withstand the elements.

Technical Specifications

The CBBF-5000 is engineered for strength and high drag capacity in a sturdy frame:

Core Performance Features

• Auto-Switch Freespool System: This rear-lever system allows the spool to rotate freely, letting a fish run with the bait. The moment you turn the handle to strike, the system disengages and puts you in direct control via the main front drag.

• 12kg Multi-Disc Drag: Utilizing a multi-disc, oiled felt system, this reel offers an impressive 12kg of stopping powerperfect for halting a large Carp or Barbel heading for snags.

• Quick-Set Infinite Anti-Reverse: Eliminates back-slap in the handle. When you stop winding, the reel stops instantly, ensuring better hook penetration and a more solid feel.

• S-Curve Oscillation System: Ensures that the line is laid back onto the spool in a consistent pattern, reducing the risk of bedding in and improving casting distance.

• RESII: Computer-Balanced Rotor: Even at this accessible price point, the rotor is balanced via computer simulation to eliminate vibration, providing a smooth retrieve even under heavy load.

• Machine-Cut Brass Pinion Gear: High-grade brass internals provide the durability needed for high-pressure situations, outperforming the cheap alloy gears often found in budget reels.

Where to Use the Carbonite B-Feeder CBBF-5000

The 5000 size is the ultimate utility specimen reel:

• Entry-Level Carp Fishing: An ideal choice for newcomers to the sport. The 5000 size holds plenty of line and has the drag capacity to handle double-figure Carp on both lakes and commercials.

• Heavy River Barbel Ledgering: The 4.5:1 ratio provides the winching power needed to pull heavy leads through fast currents and battle powerful river fish.

• Specimen Tench & Bream: Perfect for fishing multiple rods on alarms. The freespool system ensures that a run is indicated clearly without the fish feeling the weight of the rod.

• Deadbaiting for Pike: The freespool function is essential for Pike fishing to prevent the fish from dropping the bait due to resistance.

Gerrys Pro Tip: The Carbonite B-Feeder includes a graphite spare spool. We recommend loading your main spool with a standard 12lb or 15lb monofilament for general specimen work and using the spare spool for a heavier 20lb line if you plan on fishing near heavy snags or lily pads.
