PENN Overseas XT II Jigging 5’1 400g 2pcs

The PENN Overseas XT II Jigging rod, with the specifications of 51 400g and 2 pieces, is a specialized and incredibly powerful travel rod designed for extreme heavy-duty jigging applications. The XT and II in the name indicate its a high-performance model and an updated version in the Overseas series, which is known for its multi-section travel-friendly design.

Here is a detailed breakdown of the features and intended use for this specific rod:

General Description

This rod is a powerful and compact tool for anglers who travel to target massive, hard-fighting saltwater fish. It is a specialist tool for vertical jigging, and its two-piece construction allows it to be broken down into a short, manageable length for easy transport, without compromising the raw strength and performance required for battling big fish.

Rod Specifications

• Length: 5 feet 1 inch (1.55m). This very short length is a key feature for extreme vertical jigging. A shorter rod provides a greater mechanical advantage and immense leverage, which is crucial for fighting massive, strong fish directly beneath the boat. It allows the angler to lift heavy jigs and put maximum direct pressure on the fish, with less strain on the angler.
• Jig Rating: 400g. This is an extremely heavy jigging rating, indicating the rod is built for brutal, no-nonsense applications. Its designed for fishing in very deep water or incredibly strong currents where a heavy jig is needed to get down to the fish quickly. This rating also means the rod has a powerful backbone to handle the strikes and powerful runs of the largest predators.
• Action: The rod would have a fast or moderate-fast action. This type of action is perfect for jigging, as it has a sensitive tip for imparting action to the jig and detecting subtle bites, while the powerful mid and butt sections are stiff enough to set the hook and fight a large fish.
• Sections: 2-piece. The two-piece construction is a practical design for a rod this size, allowing for easier transport while maintaining a more robust power curve than a multi-section travel rod.
• Blank Material: PENN Overseas rods typically use high-modulus carbon blanks, often with technologies like SLS3 Blank construction to increase strength and sensitivity while keeping the weight down.
• Guides: The rod would feature high-quality, saltwater-proof guides, likely from a reputable brand like Fuji. The guides would be designed to handle the abrasive nature of heavy braided line, which is commonly used for jigging.
• Reel Seat: The reel seat would be designed for a spinning reel, as indicated by the Jigging designation without the Casting suffix. It would be a heavy-duty model designed to securely lock a powerful spinning reel in place.
• Handle: The handle would be made from high-density EVA foam, providing a comfortable and secure grip for two-handed jigging and fighting.

Intended Use

This rod is a specialist tool for a very specific type of fishing: extreme vertical jigging for the largest saltwater predators. Its ideal for:

• Offshore and Deep-Sea Jigging: Targeting species like Dogtooth Tuna, Amberjack, Yellowfin Tuna, and other brutes.
• Tropical Angling Adventures: Perfect for anglers traveling to destinations known for giant, powerful fish.
• Extreme Applications: The 400g rating makes it suitable for fishing in the deepest waters or strongest currents where heavy jigs are necessary.
