Precision Engineering Meets Extreme Distance The Ultimate Long-Range Surf Tool

The PENN Tidal Long Hybrid Lowrider is a flagship model from PENNs exclusive Tidal surfcasting concept. This rod isnt just about throwing weight; its about the technical marriage of extreme distance and unparalleled bite detection. Designed for the angler who demands a slim, sporty feel without sacrificing the power needed to punch a lead into a headwind, the Tidal series has quickly become a favorite on beaches across the UK and Europe.

The Long Hybrid designation refers to the extended sensitive tip section, which is engineered to stay still in heavy swells while vibrating at the slightest touch from a fish. Combined with the high-modulus 30T carbon blank, you get a rod that recovers instantly after a cast, sending your rig further with less effort.

Key Features & Performance

• 30T High-Modulus Carbon Blank: The backbone of the rod is exceptionally slim yet deceptively powerful. The 30T carbon provides the snap required for long-range casting while keeping the overall weight low to prevent fatigue during long sessions.

• Long Hybrid Sensitip: This isnt a standard tip. The Long Hybrid design offers an extended taper that provides a seamless transition from the stiff mid-section to a sensitive, glow-in-the-dark tip. Its perfect for spotting shy bites from 150 yards out.

• Saltwater-Proof Lowrider Guides: Specifically chosen for use with thin braids and low-diameter monofilaments, the Lowrider guides reduce line friction and prevent the looping issues often found with traditional high-standoff guides.

• X-Shrink Casting Grip: Maximum control is vital when your hands are wet or cold. The special X-wrap shrink tube provides a non-slip, ergonomic grip that allows you to put maximum compression into the blank during the cast.

Where to Use the PENN Tidal Long Hybrid

• Competitive Match Fishing: When every fish counts, the Sensitip ensures you see the tiny rattles of small Whiting or dabs that other distance rods would miss.

• Braided Line Setups: The Lowrider guides are the gold standard for braid users, virtually eliminating the wind knots that can plague continental-style rods.

• Clean Ground Distance: Optimized for beaches where you need to hit the second bar. The 4.20m length provides the perfect lever for high-velocity casting.

• Rough Weather Stealth: The glow-in-the-dark tip is a lifesaver during night sessions in Morecambe or on the south coast, allowing you to track your rods movement against the waves without constant torch use.

Gerrys Verdict: PENN has really stepped up their game with the Tidal range. The Long Hybrid tip on this 4.20m model is one of the best weve seenit has a beautiful, natural curve that doesnt bounce in the wind but folds over perfectly when a fish takes. If youre looking for a slim, modern rod that feels like an extension of your arm, this is the one to pick up
