Shimano Miravel 2500

Shimano Miravel 2500 | The Agile Lightweight Multi-Species Reel

At Gerrys Fishing, we highly recommend the Shimano Miravel 2500 for the technical angler seeking the ultimate balance between weight and winding power. As the entry point into the Magnumlite (MGL) Series, the Miravel is engineered to feel weightless in the hand and effortless to turn. The standard 2500 model features a 5.0:1 gear ratio, providing a steady, smooth retrieve that is perfect for light-to-medium lure techniques where a controlled presentation is key.

Weighing in at just 205g, this reel is built with Shimanos carbon-infused CI4+ material, offering the rigidity required for tough fights without the bulk of traditional spinning reels.

Core Magnumlite Technologies

• CI4+ G-Free Body: The frame is constructed from CI4+, a material 2.5 times stiffer than standard resin. The G-Free Body design shifts the internal weight closer to the rod, significantly improving balance and reducing hand fatigue during long sessions.

• Magnumlite (MGL) Rotor: The Miravels defining feature is its ultra-light rotor. With exceptionally low startup inertia, it requires minimal effort to start the handle moving, providing heightened sensitivity to detect subtle bites or changes in water current.

• HAGANE Gear & X-SHIP: Cold-forged HAGANE Gearing offers long-lasting durability. This is supported by X-SHIP, which holds the pinion gear in precise alignment under heavy loads, ensuring you never lose cranking power when it matters most.

• SilentDrive: By eliminating microscopic play and rattles within the internal drive-train, SilentDrive delivers a fluid, silent winding experience that rivals many of Shimanos higher-end models.

• CoreProtect & AR-C Spool: CoreProtect provides water resistance to the key internal mechanisms, making this reel reliable in freshwater and inshore saltwater environments. The AR-C Spool lip design reduces line friction, maximizing your casting distance.

Use Example: Finesse Freshwater and Estuary Fishing

Imagine you are stalking a small river for Trout or working the margins of an estuary for Schoolie Bass. You are using small spinners, soft plastics, or crankbaits that require a consistent, rhythmic retrieve to entice a strike.

The Miravel 2500 is the perfect partner for this. Its 5.0:1 gear ratio provides the torque needed to pull lures through flow or weeds without the retrieve feeling labored. At just 205g, it balances perfectly on modern 7ft or 8ft lure rods, allowing for pinpoint accuracy in every cast. When a fish strikes, the 9kg max drag and screw-in handle provide a direct, play-free connection, giving you total control from the first run to the net.
